Silver Anniversary Team: Two All-Americans Headline Special Teams Selections

Kick returner Marcus Washington, kicker Mark Padgett and punter Von Lewis were named to the Silver Anniversary Team.

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Silver Anniversary Team special teams group features a pair of All-Americans and a member of the Bridgewater Athletic Hall of Fame.

Marcus Washington is the only player to earn two spots on the Silver Anniversary Team. Also, a selection at running back, Washington was picked as the team's return specialist.

Washington is tied for the Eagles' career record for kickoff returns for touchdowns with four. Three of those returns came during the 2004 season when Washington led the nation in kickoff returns, averaging 38.2 yards per return. He is tied for the longest return in program history with a 100-yard kickoff return for touchdown.

D3football.com selected Washington to its 2004 All-America second team as a return specialist.

Michael Padgett ranks first in the Bridgewater record book with 34 career field goals made. The Eagles' place-kicker was a first-team All-ODAC pick in 1996 and 1998. He was named to the AFCA (American Football Coaches Association) All-America team following the 1998 season.

Von Lewis is well-known for his track and field exploits, but he was also one of the best punters in the ODAC. Lewis averaged 37.3 yards per punt during his career to rank No. 6 in the Eagles' record book. In 1997, he averaged 38.5 yards per punt and was named to the All-ODAC first team. Lewis was inducted into the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012.

The 2019 football season will be the 25th year with Michael Clark as the program's head coach. In recognition of Coach Clark's Silver Anniversary, Bridgewater College Facebook Fans voted on a Silver Anniversary team, recognizing the top players from the Coach Clark era.

Bridgewater opens the 2019 regular season at home on Sept. 7 when the Eagles host Gettysburg College.
