2019 Bridgewater Field Hockey Schedule

The Bridgewater College field hockey team has announced its 2019 schedule- the first season to be played under a new rules format.

The NCAA will now match international rules with four 15-minute quarters, and no timeouts allowed besides for stoppages between periods. Overtime will be two 10-minute sudden victory periods followed by a shootout.

"2019 is going to be an exciting and challenging year, and the ODAC trophy is definitely up for grabs," said head coach Allyson Kenyon. "I am excited for the new format which will allow us to play a faster-paced game with more intensity. We have mixed up the schedule a bit this year and added in some new out-of-conference opponents to help prepare us for the tough ODAC slate."

The Eagles open the year with two games on the campus of Misericordia University (August 30-31), facing the hosts on Friday and then Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday.

Bridgewater will again play a challenging non-conference schedule that includes a trip to Mary Washington (who the Eagles held to a single goal last fall) on September 10, and a home matchup with Christopher Newport on September 25.

"We are diving right in with our opening trip to Pennsylvania to play Misercordia and Gwynedd Mercy University, two teams that are no strangers to postseason play," said Kenyon. "These early games will not only test us technically and tactically, but mentally and physically as well."

ODAC play begins on October 5 with a trip to Virginia Wesleyan, followed by a home game vs. Shenandoah on October 9.

Bridgewater will recognize Senior Day on Saturday, October 26, against defending conference champion Lynchburg.
