Field Hockey Loses Road Game at St. Mary's

ST. MARY'S, Md. – Despite six first half saves by Emily Witzke, the Bridgewater College field hockey team lost 2-0 at St. Mary's on Wednesday.

Trailing 1-0 at the beginning of the second quarter, Witzke stopped three shots in a span of 77 seconds from Veronica Maring, Alyssa Demski and Celina Kaufman.

The Seahawks earned a penalty corner on the sequence however, and Gabrielle Corder finished it off to double the hosts' lead.

Haley Runyon had the first chance of the second half, but the Eagle freshman saw her shot saved by Kelbey Egerland.

The Eagles then earned three corners in just over a minute later in the third quarter, but again couldn't cut the deficit in half.

At the other end, St. Mary's Celina Kaufman was saved by Ali Bishop in the final seconds of the third quarter and then put the rebound wide.

Bridgewater earned four more penalty corners in the fourth quarter, but only managed one shot- from Karinne Moyer.

The Eagles are 0-3 and will continue a challenging opening road stretch to the season with a trip to Mary Washington next Tuesday.
