ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon scored twice in the final seven minutes of regulation to escape with a 2-1 decision over the Bridgewater field hockey team on Wednesday night.

The Yellow Jackets won it after earning consecutive penalty corners with two minutes remaining. Claire Magill flipped a shot directly off the insert that looped into the far upper corner.

Bridgewater had taken a 1-0 lead in the third quarter. Kelsey Hicks stole the ball and skipped a pass through to Meghan Obaugh down the left side. Obaugh spun around a defender and sent in a cross that was redirected to the cage by Courtney Cooke.

RMC tied it with 6:44 remaining when Ayanna Healy intercepted a pass and went the other way, getting to the right side of the circle and assisting teammate Maria Teresa Ambrogi-Torres.

Bridgewater had emerged unscathed in the first half thanks to five saves from Emily Witzke, who made four more in the third quarter to finish with nine.

Witzke stopped three straight shots just before halftime, with a penalty corner whistled but the final two RMC shots of the half missing the target.

Witzke saved two more attempts on a corner soon after Cooke put Bridgewater on top. The Eagles transitioned down the field and won a corner of their own; Kallie Moyer's shot was saved by Gatlin Snyder and Caroline Quigley's rebound was blocked. Another corner was whistled and two shots from Allison Thompson wouldn't get through.

Bridgewater is 4-11, 2-3 ODAC, but has held a fourth quarter lead in three of those defeats, including two in conference play. The Eagles will host #19 Lynchburg on Saturday, where they will celebrate Senior Day for their graduating class of Ali Bishop, Jacqueline DiFulvio, Georgia Howard, Elise Lloyd, Alexandra Rose and Witzke.
