Obaugh Scores Four as Eagles Beat EMU

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Meghan Obaugh scored four goals as the Bridgewater College field hockey team beat EMU 4-1 in heavy rain at Jopson Field.

Defender Allison Thompson had two assists as the Eagles (5-12, 3-4 ODAC) inched closer to a playoff spot.

It took the Eagles just 18 seconds to go ahead 1-0.

Obaugh had a shot 10 seconds in that was saved. She collected her own rebound and flipped it over the goalie and in for the quick strike opener.

With the pouring rain slowing both teams' attacks, those would be the only two shot attempts of the opening period.

The Royals tied it in the third quarter on a restart immediately following a BC yellow card. Brandy Troutman's hit went all the way to the back post, where it was controlled well and finished off by Juliana Ghally.

The Eagles took back the lead just over three minutes later. Obaugh struck again, on a penalty corner following a pass from Thompson.

Right after the Bridgewater goal, EMU had a corner and Lauren Hartzler redirected a Troutman shot just wide of the near post.

Obaugh completed her hat trick and gave BC an important insurance goal early in the fourth quarter, chasing down a through ball from Courtney Cooke behind the EMU defense. She added a fourth, again being set up by Thompson off a penalty corner play.

It was the final home game for seniors Ali Bishop, Jacqueline DiFulvio, Georgia Howard, Elise Lloyd, Alexandra Rose and Emily Witzke, who celebrated their Senior Day over the weekend against Lynchburg. Bridgewater will conclude the regular season on Saturday at Washington & Lee.
