RADFORD, Va. - Bridgewater College closed out the exhibition portion of its schedule Tuesday night, losing to Division I Radford, 91-40, at the Dedmon Center.
The Eagles got off to a slow start, falling behind 8-0, before Kellen Hodge worked inside for a bucket to put the Eagles on the board with 15:55 left in the half.
A layup by Bridgewater's Davrion Grier pulled the Eagles to within 11-4 before a 3-pointer by Devin Hutchinson gave the Highlanders a 10-point lead, 14-4.
The Eagles then went on a 12-2 run to pull even on the scoreboard. Will Bowser and Chandler Murray knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers, trimming the margin to 14-10. Murray hit again from long range to make it a one-point game before a tip-in by Devine Eke put the Highlanders up 16-13. Jalil Langston then scored on a 3-ball, tying the score at 16-16 with 11:19 left in the half.
Radford then reeled off 11 straight points before a 3-pointer by TJ Turner cut the Highlanders' lead to eight, 27-19, with eight minutes left in the half. Murray scored on a layup at the 5:29 mark to once again cut the margin to single digits, 30-21, but Radford closed the half with an 11-3 run to lead 41-24 at the break.
Bridgewater scored just 16 points in the second half as Radford pulled away for the final margin of victory.
Murray led the Eagles in scoring with 17 points. Langston, BC's first-year forward, turned in another solid outing with nine points and five boards.
The Eagles tip off the regular season this weekend at the Pablo Coto Tournament hosted by Marymount University. Bridgewater opens play Saturday against Montclair State at 3:00 p.m. The Eagles will play either Wilkes or Marymount on Sunday.
