DOVER, Del. – Kevin Metzger stopped 75% of his shots and the Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team surged after a low-scoring first half to defeat Wesley 9-4.
Metzger had nine saves in the first half, and six in the first quarter alone, as the Eagles went into halftime trailing 2-1. He finished with 12 stops on the day.
A fourth quarter that began tied 4-4 was all Bridgewater, as the visitors outscored their opponents 5-0.
Eric Husselbaugh gave BC the lead for good, and Blake Mann followed with two goals in a span of 85 seconds.
Husselbaugh scored man-up, on the second consecutive assist from Jake Pangle, to make it 8-4. Sean MacLeish capped the scoring with 1:08 remaining.
Husselbaugh finished with a hat trick and three caused turnovers, while Mann also had a hat trick. Pangle totaled two assists, as did Daniel Brown- who moved to within one of the school career record.
Bridgewater was perfect on clears and won 15 of the game's 17 faceoffs. Mason Gauntt was 8-for-10 while Tyler Nieto was a perfect 7-of-7.
BC trailed 3-1 early in the third quarter and turned the ball over after winning the faceoff. Metzger saved consecutive shots from Leo Kelly and Josh Wassum however, and MacLeish caused a turnover and took it all the way back for a goal. Less than a minute later, Vincent Foti tied the game up for the Eagles.
Bridgewater is now 5-0 and is on a six-game winning streak. The Eagles will open ODAC play on Saturday at #19 Lynchburg. The Hornets are 0-4, but all four losses have come to teams currently ranked in the top-11 nationally.
