Eagles Lose to #19 Lynchburg in ODAC Opener

LYNCHBURG, Va. - A big offensive first half led #19 Lynchburg past the Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team, 21-7 in the Eagles' conference opener.

Justin Calabrese and Blake Mann each recorded two goals and an assist for Bridgewater, while freshman Eric Husselbaugh scored twice.

Rookie Mason Gauntt was 7-of-18 on faceoffs and led the team with four ground balls. Benjamin Vayer and Alesandro Gargano each totaled three ground balls and a caused turnover.

The Hornets capitalized on the man-advantage in the first quarter, as three Eagle flags led to three Lynchburg goals and a 7-1 lead for the hosts.

Evan Lombardo scored three even strength goals in the first quarter and added two more in the second, as Lynchburg again won the period 7-1 to take a 14-2 lead at the break.

Calabrese (from Vincent Foti) and Mann scored for BC in the third quarter as the Eagles allowed just one goal in the period.

Mann's man-up tally kick-started a three-goal unanswered run for Bridgewater in the fourth quarter. Calabrese and Husselbaugh followed with goals.

Bridgewater falls to 5-1, 0-1 ODAC after a program-record unbeaten start to this campaign. They will host another tough opponent on Wednesday in Washington College.

#19 Lynchburg (1-4, 1-0) gets its first win of the season. Those four losses however have all come against teams currently ranked in the top-11 nationally (#3 Salisbury, #5 York, #8 Cabrini and #11 Franklin & Marshall.
