BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Faceoffs and turnovers led to a fast start for the Generals, as the Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team fell 18-5 to #13 Washington & Lee.

Jared Barley caused a turnover and picked up a team-best six ground balls, while Blake Mann had a hat trick to leads the Eagles' attack. Hunter Bagby stopped five shots in the second half while allowing just four goals.

W&L held a 15-3 first half edge in faceoffs and was perfect on clearing in the first 30 minutes, while the Eagles went 6-for-12. Bridgewater failed on their first four clears of the game, leading to two goals for A.J. Witherell and one by Hudson Hamill.

Witherell recorded his fifth goal of the game in the opening 5:49, making it 5-0 Generals.

Bridgewater got on the board with a man-up goal by Mann. Witherell added his sixth of the first quarter to make it 6-1.

Another failed clear led to a Walker Brown transition goal and an 11-1 W&L lead with 8:38 left in the second quarter. Witherell then completed a no-look pass to Sam Dardani to push the gap to 13-1.

Jake Truman knocked down a pass in the final seconds of the half. Hunter Becker picked up the ground ball and found Mann to beat the buzzer with an Eagle goal.

Three back-up goalies (Bagby, W&L's Will Atkins and Nic Peterson) combined for six saves in a third quarter that did not feature a single goal… until Justin Calabrese struck man-up with one second remaining off an assist from Daniel Brown.

Mason Gauntt then scored right off the fourth quarter faceoff, drawing a bodychecking flag in the process, giving Bridgewater two goals in 10 seconds and cutting the score to 14-4.

Mann was denied a hat trick on a crazy stick save up high by Peterson, but did complete it with 6:21 remaining off a feed from Joey Tabak.
