Men's Soccer Team Set For A 10-Day Tour Of England

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – In preparation for the upcoming season, the Bridgewater College men's soccer team will depart Friday for a 10-day tour of England.

The team will arrive in London on Saturday and will have its first training session on Sunday morning before going to the national stadium to watch the Premier League and FA Cup winners Manchester City play Liverpool, the Premier League runner-up.

Monday, Aug. 5 will feature a day of sightseeing as the team will take in all the famous sites in London including Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament and Trafalgar Square. The morning ends with a river cruise up the Thames. The day concludes with the team's first game of the tour against local competition.

The team will train with a top-class English coach on Tuesday morning before travelling north for a stop in Stratford upon Avon, the home of William Shakespeare where they will see the famous Tudor cottages and cobbled streets.

On Wednesday, the team begins the day with a training session followed by an afternoon private tour of Old Trafford, home of Manchester United.

Thursday begins with a private tour of Anfield, home of the Liverpool FC followed by a trip to the city of Liverpool, the home of The Beatles and the famous Albert Docks. The day concludes with the team's second game.

The team travels to the North of Wales on Friday to visit the seaside town of Conway where it will see one of the most spectacular castles in the world built in the 11th century. Friday afternoon the team transfers to St. Georges Park, the training center and home to England's national teams. The team will tour the facility before training with staff coaches.

Saturday the team will attend a professional match on the opening weekend of the English Premier League featuring Crystal Palace vs. Everton before returning to the States on Aug. 11.
