FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Bridgewater College tennis standout Canon Secord added more postseason honors to his list of accomplishments as he has been named the State College Division Men's Tennis Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year while also being named to the all-state first team in singles by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).
Secord, the 2019 ODAC Player of the Year and the ODAC Rookie of the Year, posted a 15-2 overall singles record during his first season with the Eagles. He finished the season ranked No. 21 in the Atlantic South region singles rankings. He was Bridgewater's first player to win the ODAC Player of the Year Award since 1991 when Laurent Comec received the honor. Secord was the first Eagle to win the ODAC Rookie of the Year. The conference gave out its first Rookie of the Year honor in 2003.
Joining Secord on the VaSID All-State first team in singles were Mary Washington's Patrick Hughes and Moses Hutchinson, Christopher Newport's Dominic Lacombe and Ryan Macy and Washington and Lee's Bobby Neuner.
Mary Washington's Todd Helbling was named the VaSID State Coach of the Year.
