Men's Tennis Competes at WildCat Invite

Matthew Gordon placed second in flight two singles at the WildCat Invitational.

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's tennis team competed this past weekend at the WildCat Invitational hosted by Randolph College.

Play was contested in eight singles flights and four doubles flights. Teams participating in addition to the Eagles and the host team were Lynchburg and Pfeiffer.

Bridgewater's Canon Secord won the top flight, losing a total of just three games. Secord defeated Randolph's Jack Fishwick 6-0, 6-1 and then took the title match from Pfeiffer's Raul Ruiz 6-1, 6-1.

Matthew Gordon won his first match at No. 2, defeating Pfeiffer's Trey Speight 6-1, 6-1, but lost in the final to Lynchburg's Daniel Christian 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles action, Secord and Gordon took the title at No. 1. The Eagles duo won their opener over Pfeiffer's Ruiz and Dylan Masters 8-3 and then defeated Lynchburg's Colton Mullins and Zach Shane 8-5.

Sonet Gandhi and Nick Kiser took the title at No. 3 doubles. The duo defeated Randolph's Carson Healy and Jose Merhej in the opener, 8-0, and then won the title match over Pfeiffer's Brandon Marchant Phillip and Phillip Conway 8-5.

Robert Williard and Leyton Pullin lost their first match at No. 4 doubles, but bounced back to win their consolation match 8-3 over Randolph's Mike Morell and Jimmy Shiflett.
