ROANOKE, Va.- The Bridgewater College men's indoor track and field team took second at the 2019 ODAC Championships. The Eagles earned 139 points behind the champion Generals of Washington & Lee with 146.5 points. Lynchburg took third with 117 points.
Jamie Hiegel and Davonta Womack led the way for the Eagles, each securing a new record and multiple individual conference titles. Hiegel took first in the 3000 meters (8:52.86) and the 5000 meters (14:54.53), setting a new Bridgewater College and facility record at the Kerr-Cregger Field House. Womack had a very strong showing, securing wins in the long jump (7.06m/23'2"), 60 meters (6.83), and 200 meters (22.47). His 60 meter time is a new Bridgewater College record. He was later named the Athlete of the Year.
Griffin Simpson cleared 3.85m/12'7.50" in the pole vault while Chase Rosenthal cleared 3.25m/10'8". Rosenthal also took eighth in the long jump (6.63m/21'9"), fourth in the triple jump (13.64m/44'9"), and third in the 60 meter hurdles (8.45).
Dirk Jones placed seventh in the long jump (6.67m/21'10.75") and sixth in the 60 meter sprint (7.05).
Brandon Christian took fourth in the long jump (6.77m/22'2.50"), seventh in the high jump (1.86m/6'1.25"), and fifth in the triple jump (13.52m/44'4.25").
Rashon Davis took home second in the high jump (1.94m/6'4.25").
Four Eagles placed in the 400 meters. Dianté Cannon landed in third (51.09), followed by Christopher Atkins in sixth (51.66) and Andre Martin in seventh (51.74). Cannon also took fourth in the 200 meters (22.62).
The 4x400 relay group of Cannon, Rosenthal, Atkins, and Womack took third place (3:30.66).
The Eagles return to the track next weekend at the Roanoke Final Qualifer.
