Eagles Win Four Events At Doc Jopson Invite

BRIDGEWATER, Va.Johnny Haizel-Cobbina, Dirk Jones, and Jamie Hiegel all put up first place finishes for the Eagles at the Doc Jopson Invite, hosted Bridgewater. Bridgewater also celebrated its senior athletes during the meet. 

Haizel-Cobbina took first in 800 meter run (1:56.24). Four other Eagles placed in the top ten with AJ Martin taking fourth (1:59.48), Christopher Moore taking fifth (2:00.28), Kenny Sullivan finishing seventh (2:03.80), and Shane Gibson placing eighth (2:04.36).

Jones finished first in the long jump (7.10m/23'3.50"), an event dominated by the Eagles. Davonta Womack finished in second (7.07m/23'2.50) followed by Brady Barefoot in fourth (6.70m/21'11.75"), Brandon Christian in fifth (6.67m/21'10.75") and Chase Rosenthal in sixth (6.63m/21'9").

Hiegel won the 5,000 meter run by over two minutes (15:06.64). Robert Theimer took second (17:11.38), followed by Joshua Wilt in third (17:15.85) and Ian Vest in fourth (17:18.80). 

The other first place finish for Bridgewater came in 4x400 relay. The team of Chris Atkins, Anthony Lovelace, James Mayo, and Diante Cannon took first (3:26.20) with the team of Gibson, Haizel-Cobbina, Martin and Sullivan finishing in second (3:33.65).

Lovelace, Alex Galloway, Jones, and Womack took second in the 4x100 (42.66). Jones took third place in the 100 meter dash (11.07) followed by Galloway in fourth (11.24) and Rosenthal in seventh (11.54). 

Atkins (50.56) and Mayo (50.62) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 400 meter dash.

Cannon placed third in the 200 meter dash, followed by Mayo in seventh (22.41) and Justin Young at 11th (24.46).

Gieseler finished fourth in the 110 meter hurdles (16.43) and eighth in the high jump (5'11.25").

Rosenthal placed third in the high jump (1.91m/6'3.25") followed by Rashon Davis in sixth (1.81m/5'11.25"). Rosenthal also took third in the pole vault (3.38m/11'1") and ninth in the shot put (10.85m/35'7.25").

Moore and Christian represented the Eagles in the triple jump. Moore placed second (13.53m/44'4.75") and Christian took third (13.27m/46'6.50").

Noah Howell finished fifth in the 1,500 meter run (4:24.97) and Chancen Woodruff took eighth (5:10.41). 

Corey Huffman led the Eagles in the throws. The senior finished third in the shot put (12.57m/41'3"), second in the hammer (43.45m/134'5"), third in the discus (42.85m/140'7"), and second in the javelin (49.46m/162'3"). 

Michael Lotts took fourth in the hammer (38.11m/125'0"), eighth in the discus (34.88m/114'5"), and sixth in the shot put (12.25m/40'2.25"). Wyatt Hall finished fifth in the hammer (36.98m/121'4"), sixth in the discus (35.98m/118'0"), and third in the javelin (43.54m/142'10"). Reginald Patterson took seventh in the discus (35.54m/116'7"), tenth in the javelin (33.69m/110'6"), and fourth in the shot put (12.45m/40'10.25").

Richard Wojno took fourth in the javelin (43.03m/141'2")and Barefoot placed sixth (42.43m/139'2").

Bridgewater returns to the track next weekend at the Elon Invitational in Elon, N.C.
