Womack Sets School Record at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Senior Davonta Womack set a new school record in the 100 meter dash to lead the Eagles at the Liberty Twilight Meet. 

Womack ran a 10.54 in the final to finish fourth. The previous record was 10.58 set by Melvin Queen in 2008. The senior also finished second in the long jump (7.16m/23'6") by .01. Classmate Alex Galloway placed eighth in the 400 meter dash (49.84).

The Eagles had four runners compete in the 800 meters. Johnny Haizel-Cobbina placed 18th (1:55.50), followed by Shane Gibson in 29th (2:00.45), Kenny Sullivan in 30th (2:00.62) and AJ Martin in 36th (2:05.08).

Noah Howell (16:37.92) and Ian Vest (16:42.20) placed 11th and 12th in the 5,000 meters. 

The Eagles had four top finishes in the long jump, the team's strongest event. In addition to Womack's second place finish, Brandon Christian took fourth (6.79m/23'3.5") with Chase Rosenthal in 13th (6.25m/20'6.25") and Dirk Jones in 14th (6.03m/19'9.50"). Rosenthal also finished 23rd in the 400 meters (51.98) and 18th in the discus (33.99m/111'6"). Christian added another fourth place finish in the triple jump (13.80m/45'3.50"). Christopher Moore was one place behind in fifth (13.67m/44'10.25").

The Eagles continue their last chance meets on May 9 at the NCC Dr. Keeler Meet in Naperville, Ill.
