MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - Chase Rosenthal sits in seventh place after day one of competing in the decathlon at the Mount Olive First Chance meet.
The sophomore earned 3420 points after five events in his first decathlon and the first competed by a Bridgewater athlete.
He started the day with a 11.49 performance in the 100 meters for 755 points and followed with a 6.30m/20'8" long jump for 652 points. He then moved to the shot put and earned 570 points on a 11.40m/37'5" throw.
The final two events were the high jump and 400 meters. Rosenthal cleared 1.89m/6'2.25" in the high jump for 705 points and ran a personal best 51.69 400 meter dash for 738 points.
Rosenthal will compete the five remaining events tomorrow - the 110 meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1,500 meters.
