Womack Breaks School Record at Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - Senior Davonta Womack broke the Bridgewater record in the 200 meter dash at the Mount Olive First Chance Qualifier.

Womack came in eighth with a mark of 21.62. The previous record was 21.77, originally set by Melvin Queen in 2008 and tied by Womack in 2016. He also placed fourth in the long jump (7.15m/23'5.50").

Dirk Jones also competed in the long jump, finishing in eighth (6.60m/21'8"). Diante Cannon represented Bridgewater in the 100 meter dash prelims, clocking in at 11.06.

Chase Rosenthal entered the day in seventh place in the decathlon. He would jump to fifth place after strong performances in the final five events to put together the 15th best decathlon score in Division III with 6421 points. This was the first time a Bridgewater athlete has competed in the decathlon. 

The sophomore started the day with the 110 meter hurdles, picking up 823 with a time of 15.22. He then moved to the discus with a personal best 34.87m/114'5" throw for 561 points. He picked up 493 points in the pole vault (3.54m/11'7.25") and 484 points in the javelin (42.07m/138'0") with another personal best. Rosenthal finished the day with a 4:46.51 1,500 meters to earn his remaining 640 points. 

The Eagles return to Mount Olive tomorrow for the Final Qualifier.
