    For the first time in nearly a quarter-century, Bridgewater College will have a new head softball coach. Following a nationwide search, Bridgewater College Director of Athletics Curt Kendall has announced the hiring of Kim McCall as the Eagles’ new head softball coach.

    In the consolation round of the 2014 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) softball tournament, the Bridgewater Eagles softball team took a three-run lead early in the contest but couldn’t hold off Eastern Mennonite in the final innings in a 4-3 loss to the Royals at the James I. Moyer Complex.

    With the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) schedule in the books, the conference office has announced the seedings for the upcoming conference softball tournament and the Bridgewater Eagles have secured the number eight seed for the postseason which is set to begin on Friday.

    In a game that saw a four-plus hour rain delay, the Bridgewater Eagles softball team couldn’t overcome a solid offensive effort from the top-seeded Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan as the Eagles fell in the opening round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament by a 10-2 tally in five innings.

    In the home finale for the Bridgewater Eagles softball team, the Eagles allowed the Marlins to plate a single unearned run but the Bridgewater bats couldn't get going in a 1-0 loss to Virginia Wesleyan. The 13th-ranked Marlins exploded at the plate in the second game, claiming an 8-0 victory in five innings to pick up the sweep over the Eagles.

    Freshman Haley Harris belted a walk-off, two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to hand the Bridgewater Eagles softball team a 4-2 victory in game number one against 15th-ranked Christopher Newport University. In the nightcap, the Eagles committed five errors in a 10-2 loss to the Captains to settle for a split in non-conference action.

    Due to Saturday's rain event that dropped copious amounts of moisture on the state of Virginia, Bridgewater's Sunday doubleheader at Roanoke has been pushed back to Monday. The Eagles will now meet up with the Maroons on Monday at 5 p.m. at the James I. Moyer Complex.
  • Softball Takes One from EMU; Second Game Called Due to Darkness

    In game one, the Bridgewater Eagles softball team overcame four errors and broke a 3-3 deadlock in the seventh inning with a four-run explosion to take the opener by a 7-3 score. In the nightcap, the Eagles and the Royals ended the fifth inning at an 8-8 tie before the game was halted due to darkness.

    Myrtle Beach, S.C. has always been good to head coach Donnie Fulk in his 23 years at the helm of the Bridgewater Eagles softball program and the 2014 Spring Break trip was no different. Junior Amanda Lutz hurled a perfect game and the Eagles needed just 10 total innings to dispatch Delaware Valley and Arcadia on the final day of competition at the Snowbird Tournament.

The Eagles defeated Dakota State by an 8-2 score in the opener before registering a 6-2 win in game two against the Garnet.
