LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College softball team fell twice to No. 2 Emory 3-2 and 12-0 (five innings) in a non-conference doubleheader at a neutral site in Lynchburg, Va. on Friday afternoon.
Game one: Emory 3, Bridgewater 2
Bridgewater (4-14) pushed nationally-ranked Emory (29-1) to the limit during game one of the doubleheader.
Senior Brianna Cox allowed only three hits, one earned run and struck out four through 6.2 innings of work. Cox also went 3-for-3 at the plate with a RBI and run. Senior Brooke Throckmorton and Hannah Nyquist also notched two hits each.
Emory got on the scoreboard in the first inning on a grounder to plate Jenna Wilson for a 1-0 lead. However, Cox would keep Emory's lineup in check through majority of the contest.
The Eagles answered in the sixth inning as Cox blasted a RBI double to center field and Mariah Wharton drove in Cox on a single for a 2-1 advantage.
Nonetheless, an error and a hit by pitch with the base loaded in the seventh allowed Emory to regain the lead and win the first game.

Brittany File pitched three hitless innings and Toko Miller provided two innings of relief to keep the Eagles of the scoreboard.
Emory caught fire with a five-run inning in the top of the second and never looked back. EU scored its first five runs on a three-run double by Alyssa Pollard and two singles.
Sophomore Hannah Trala recorded five strikeouts and didn't give up a hit in 2.2 inning for the Eagles.
The Eagle are back action with a conference doubleheader against Randolp-Macon on Tuesday, March 29 at 3:00 p.m.
