Eagles Stay Undefeated

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Bridgewater College softball team remains undefeated on the season after picking up two more wins over St. Vincent and Lebanon Valley.

Game One - Bridgewater 8, St. Vincent 0

The Eagles stormed out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first. Carlita Tibbs singled with the bases loaded to send Lindsey Talley home. Torie Shifflett added another single with the bases loaded and advanced on the throw to second as Mikaila Guard and Katrina Martin added two more runs for the Eagles.

Kaitlyn Tirona and Marlee Carroll would each add a single and send two more runners home to give the Eagles a five point advantage after only one inning.

The Eagles added three more in the second after Tibbs flied out to left field and Stephanie Carroll and Guard tagged up for the score. Martin would also score on a St. Vincent throwing error.

With the Eagles up by eight in the fifth inning, the game was called in favor of Bridgewater.

Emily Clifford pitched a no hitter for the Eagles in her second collegiate appearance on the mound.

Shifflett, Carroll, Martin, Talley, Tirona and Guard all notched two hits while Tibbs earned four RBIs.

Game Two - Bridgewater 9, Lebanon Valley 0

The Eagles continued to dominate in game two, this time taking down Lebanon Valley in six innings.

Carroll got on base in the second inning with a single and advanced to third on the next at bat. Martin then singled and Carroll ran home to put Bridgewater up 1-0.

Keirsten Kennedy homered on a line drive to left field to add another run to the Eagles total.

Moving to the bottom of the fourth, Kennedy followed up her home run with a single and advanced to second on a Ryann Crennan single. With Avery Pinder up to bat, both Kennedy and Crennan stole a base to put them on second and third.

Pinder would pop out, bringing Talley to the plate. The senior singled on a fly ball to the shortstop to send Kennedy home. Carroll followed it up with a ground ball single to bring in Crennan for a 4-0 Bridgewater lead.

Martin tripled in the fifth to set up another scoring opportunity. The sophomore would as Sydney Layman grounded out to second but gave the Eagles another run.

Bridgewater had a big sixth inning to put three more runs on the board. Carroll sent Pinder home on single and Sarah Wimer hit a 3 RBI home run to end the game.

Carroll had four hits followed by Martin and Talley with three each. Wimer added 3 RBIs on her homer.

Kennedy pitched all six innings while allowing four hits in her first win of the season.

Bridgewater will enjoy a day off tomorrow before returning to action Wednesday with games against Alverno and Mitchell.
