Shifflett Hits Grand Slam in Game One Win

BRIDGEWATER, Va.Torie Shifflett hit a grand slam in the Eagles game one 7-1 win over Randolph-Macon at Fulk Field before dropping game two 7-3.

Game One: Bridgewater 7, Randolph-Macon 1

Bridgewater got on the board first with a Katrina Martin home run to lead off the second inning.

The Yellow Jackets scored their only run of the game on a RBI double to left field in the third.

After Lindsey Talley, Stephanie Carroll and Martin loaded the bases for the Eagles in the fifth, Shifflett hit a big four RBI home run for a 5-1 lead.

Talley hit a RBI single to center field to send Morgan Landes home for one more run. Marlee Carroll crossed home for the 7-1 lead and win on a Kaitlyn Tirona RBI. 

Tirona and Talley had two hits each for the Eagles. Carolyn Campbell pitched her eighth win of the season from the circle.

Game Two: Randolph-Macon 7, Bridgewater 3

Sarah Wimer contributed the first run of the game for Bridgewater on a RBI single to send Talley home for the 1-0 lead.

Randolph-Macon added two runs in the top of the second to take the lead before Tirona hit a RBI single to left field, giving Mikalia Guard the path to home to tie the game.

The Yellow Jackets scored two more on a RBI double in the fourth and followed it up with a homer from Ali Celiberti in the fifth for a 5-2 lead. 

Brooke Louden hit a RBI single to keep the Eagles in the game in fourth, but the Yellow Jackets hit two more RBIs in the game for the 7-3 win.

Tirona led the Eagles with two hits and one RBI. Talley, Wimer, Guard and Shifflett each had one hit.

Brooke Louden pitched five innings, allowing 11 hits and six runs. Keirsten Kennedy pitched the remaining two innings, allowing four hits and one run.

Bridgewater, now 21-13, moves closer to clinching a spot in the conference tournament thanks to the game one win. The team returns to action on Saturday, April 13 with a home doubleheader against Emory & Henry. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
