BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team lost to Dickinson 19-4 on Saturday on BC's Alumni Day.

Jodie Welsh opened the scoring in a second half that featured two goals for each side over the opening 17 minutes before Dickinson ran off six unanswered late in the game.

Senior Sarah Yashinskie then scored her 100th career goal in unusual fashion. Her free position shot was saved by Dickinson goalie Drew Yager, but Yager committed an empty stick check foul in the battle for the rebound. That pulled Yager out of the goal for another eight meter that Yashinskie flipped into the open cage. She joins classmate Kristen Stark as Bridgewater's second 100-goal scorer this season.

Welsh scored in the final seconds on another open net, after Dwyer Neal forced a turnover from goalie AJ Johns on a clear.

Olivia Carson opened the game with a good save on Maddie Parker's free position shot from the center hash, but Dickinson would go on to score on that first possession.

The Eagles forced several early turnovers on defense, but started the game 0-for-6 on clears. Trailing 5-0, Yashinskie won a draw control and O'Hara finished off the eight meter shot to get Bridgewater on the board.

Carson made another tough first half save, tipping a Chase Landis shot off the post. At the other end, Dickinson goalie Avery Priest denied both Yashinskie and O'Hara down low.

At halftime, the Eagles recognized former player Sarah Bursey '10, who passed away in October at the age of 30. Her framed jersey was presented to family members in attendance.

The game against Dickinson, who is coached by former Bridgewater head coach Kim Lowry Masimore, was also Alumni Day and the Eagles had several dozen former players on campus- including numerous former teammates of Bursey.

Bridgewater (0-7) will continue a five-game homestand on Wednesday against Bethany.
