Eagles Shut Out Bethany 23-0

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team shut out visiting Bethany 23-0 on Wednesday for BC's first victory of the season.

Returning All-ODAC goalie Mikaela Brooks made two saves in her first appearance of the season, splitting the shutout with freshman Madison Dunbar (one save). It was Bridgewater's fourth shutout in the past two years.

Dwyer Neal had five goals to go with four ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers. Shannon Rogers had a pair of goals and six assists, while Jacqueline DiFulvio totaled two goals and three assists.

Seniors Phoebe Hart and Anna O'Hara had hat tricks and one assist apiece, while classmate Sarah Yashinskie totaled seven ground balls and seven draw controls.

Bethany won the opening draw but Tori Hudson caused a turnover and Dwyer Neal scored on the counterattack 73 seconds in. Neal scored again less than a minute later to make it 2-0.

Kristen Stark then had an eight meter chance and threw a perfect pass to a wide-open O'Hara to make it 3-0. O'Hara scored again 26 seconds later, and then completed a hat trick in a span of 2:31 to make it 5-0.

Neal nearly had a hat trick of her own in the opening seven minutes, but hit the post. She would later complete the trifecta before the opening half was over.

Melissa Wilson's second goal of the year made it 7-0, and Olivia Carson's first of the season pushed the scoreline to 8-0.

Cheyenne Villarosa scored her first collegiate goal with 1:42 left in the first half, off an assist from Hart, to make it 15-0 at the break.

Neal hit the post again in the second half, but later recorded her fifth as part of three straight goals assisted by DiFulvio.

Hart scored the final three goals of the contest, completing her hat trick over a span of less than six minutes.

Bridgewater (1-7) will open ODAC play on Saturday at home against Ferrum.
