BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team scored 10 times in the first 10 minutes, winning their ODAC opener 24-3 over Ferrum College on Saturday.
Junior Dwyer Neal had a hat trick and reached 100 career points with her final goal of the day. Shannon Rogers (four goals, four assists) and Jacqueline DiFulvio (two goals, five assists) led the BC attack.
Sarah Yashinskie scored four times and added three ground balls, five draw controls and two caused turnovers. Neal also recorded four draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
The Eagles struck twice in the first minute of play, twice in the fourth, and twice in the fifth. They would race to a double-digit lead after exactly 10 minutes played.
DiFulvio assisted the first two goals of the day, in the opening 47 seconds, to Rogers and Anna O'Hara.
Rogers' second of the day made it 3-0 in the fourth minute, and DiFulvio scored 27 seconds later.
Two more in a span of 20 seconds, from Stark and Yashinskie, pushed the scoreline to 6-0 after just 4:59. Emily Jencks made it 10-0 with 20:00 still left in the first half.
Three Eagle seniors- Stark, O'Hara and Yashinskie- all had hat tricks by halftime. Rogers had three goals and three assists in the opening 30 minutes.
Defender Jodie Welsh scored from senior Phoebe Hart's assist to make it 19-1 in the second half. Freshman Maddie Johnson recorded her first collegiate goal later in the half.
Bridgewater (2-7, 1-0 ODAC) has won two straight and will host Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday in what will be a crucial matchup for both teams' playoff chances.
