Women's Soccer Blanks Guilford In ODAC Action


BRIDGEWATER, Va. -  The Bridgewater College women's soccer team ran its winning streak to four straight Saturday by blanking Guilford College, 7-0, in ODAC action.

After misfiring on several shots early, the Eagles got on the scoreboard in the 12th minute when Julia Baca took a pass across the box from Anna Theisen and found the back of the net for a 1-0 Eagles lead.

The Quakers defense was solid for the next 20 minutes before Amanda Peregory took a touch pass from Mari Marotta and scored to give Bridgewater a 2-0 lead.

The Eagles put the game away with two goals in the first three minutes of the second half. Kelly Patterson made it 3-0 with the assist going to Paxton Sauerwald and Sauerwald pushed the lead to 4-0 with an assist from Theisen.

Sara Conner took a through ball from Anne Cypriano and scored to give Bridgewater a 5-0 lead in the 73rd minute. Jennifer Conner then put a pass across the box onto the foot of Cypriano for an open shot and goal, making the score 6-0.

Marina Del Pizzo closed out the scoring when she beat the keeper to the near post for the game's final goal. Amber O'Connor had the assist on the play.

Bridgewater held a 29-5 edge in shots and a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Three Bridgewater goalkeepers combined on the shotout. Taylor Riley played the first half and made one save. Kelsey Hecker and Stephanie Bebko split the second half and each recorded a save.

Bridgewater is now 6-3 overall and 3-0 in the ODAC while the Quakers drop to 0-11, 0-4 in conference play.

The Eagles return to action Tuesday afternoon when they host Randolph-Macon College in a conference matchup. Game time is 4 p.m.
