BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's soccer team blanked Randolph-Macon, 7-0, Tuesday afternoon for the Eagles fifth straight victory.
Bridgewater hit the Yellow Jackets with a scoring barrage midway through the first half as the Eagles scored all four of their first-half goals during an 11-minute stretch.
Sarah Conner put the Eagles on the board in the 18th minute when she took a through ball from Melanie Waters and lofted a shot toward the goal from 25 yards out. The shot glanced off the keeper's hand and into the net, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
At the 27:27 mark, Waters centered a pass into the box for Mari Marotta and her shot glanced off the near post and into the back of the goal, making the score 3-0.
A minute later, Anna Theisen completed the first half scoring with a goal from straightaway, just inside of the box for a 4-0 Eagles lead.
The Eagles scored early in the second half when Viegas beat the keeper on a free kick from 30 yards out, giving Bridgewater a 5-0 lead.
Waters scored in the 57th minute with a shot to the near post, giving Bridgewater a 6-0 lead. Theisen recorded the assist on the play.
Baca finished off the scoring in the 78th minute with her second goal of the game for the final 7-0 margin.
The Eagles held a 28-4 edge in shots and a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Three Eagles shared time in goal during the shutout. Taylor Riley played the first half and recorded two saves. Kelsey Hecker and Stephanie Bebko split the second half and neither was tested by a shot on goal.
Bridgewater is now 7-3 overall and 4-0 in the ODAC. The Yellow Jackets drop to 4-6, 2-3 in the conference.
