LYNCHBURG, Va. – Lynchburg College stunned Bridgewater with a quick goal Saturday afternoon and that turned out to be enough as the 11th-ranked Hornets blanked the Eagles 1-0 in ODAC women's soccer action.
The Hornets scored the game's only goal in the seventh minute on an unassisted goal by Kelley Smith.
Lynchburg controlled play the rest of the way, but the Eagles were able to keep it a one-goal game.
The Hornets fired off 21 shots compared to two for the Eagles. Lynchburg also owned a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Bridgewater goalkeeper Taylor Riley finished the contest with eight saves.
Bridgewater is now 7-6 overall and 4-3 in the ODAC. The Hornets are 13-1 overall and 7-0 in conference play.
The Eagles return to action Wednesday evening when they travel north on Rt. 42 to play rival Eastern Mennonite. Game time is 7 p.m.
