BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater begins play in the 2013 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's soccer tournament on Saturday afternoon when the sixth-seeded Eagles travel to play the No. 3 seed, the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins. Game time is 2 p.m.

The teams engaged in a close regular season contest with the Marlins taking a 2-1 victory. Virginia Wesleyan led 1-0 at the half on Kaitlyn Clunan's goal, but the Eagles tied the score in the 62nd minute on a penalty kick by Melanie Waters. The Marlins tallied the game-winner with just less than 10 minutes to play on an unassisted goal by Clunan.

Sophomore forward Julia Baca, who started the season playing in the back row, leads the Eagles in scoring with 18 points on nine goals. Waters has scored 16 points on six goals and four assists.

Clunan leads the Marlins in scoring with 24 points on 11 goals and two assists. She ranks fourth in the conference in goals scored. First-year keeper Megan Gerhart has been solid in goal for the Marlins with a 0.48 goals against average.

A year ago at tournament time, the Eagles made the trip to Virginia Wesleyan a memorable one by stunning the Marlins 2-1 in the conference tournament semifinals. Bridgewater led 1-0 at the break on a goal by Sarah Conner, but the Marlins tied the score with an early second-half goal. Waters headed in the game-winning goal with less than a minute left in regulation for the 2-1 Eagles victory. The victory earned Bridgewater its first-ever trip to conference championship game.
