FOREST, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's soccer team was picked fourth in the ODAC Preseason Coaches' Poll released Tuesday by the conference office.
The Eagles were one of three teams to receive first-place votes in the poll. Defending champion Lynchburg topped the poll and received seven first-place votes. Virginia Wesleyan received five first-place votes to rank second with Washington and Lee next in third place. The Eagles were just behind W&L and received the final two first-place mentions.
Bridgewater is coming off one of the best seasons in program history. The Eagles finished 16-5-1 overall and advanced to the championship game of the conference tournament where they lost 1-0 in overtime to Lynchburg. Bridgewater graduated seven players from that squad including Keri Rager, the program's all-time leading scorer. The Eagles return three All-ODAC performers, including first-team pick Isabella Krider. Bailey Kratz and Catherine Haufe, both third-selections, also return.
Bridgewater opens its season with a pair of tough road contests against the top two teams in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Eagles open at Rowan, the preseason No. 2 pick in the NJAC, on Sept 1. The Profs were 12-3-3 a year ago and received a bid to the NCAA tournament. A day later, Bridgewater plays The College of New Jersey, the NJAC preseason No. 1. TCNJ reached the Division III Final Four in 2017 and finished with a 21-1-1 record.
