Second-Half Outburst Pushes Eagles To 4-1 Victory

Hunter Collier scored two goals vs. Shenandoah.

WINCHESTER, Va.- Bridgewater College scored three goals in the second half Wednesday night, two by Hunter Collier, to pull away for a 4-1 victory over Shenandoah in a key ODAC contest.

Bridgewater, now 14-2-1 overall and 7-1-1 in the ODAC, clinched a spot in the top four and a first-round ODAC tournament game at home with the victory over Shenandoah.

With the victory, Bridgewater is now in sole possession of first place in the conference standings heading into the final weekend of action. The Eagles host second-place Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday in the final game of the regular season with the winner of the contest locking up the No. 1 seed for the ODAC tournament. A tie against Virginia Wesleyan would assure the Eagles of finishing in at least a tie for first place in the standings.

Bridgewater snapped a scoreless tie Wednesday evening with a goal late in the first half off a corner kick opportunity in the 43rd minute. Hanna Randolph took the corner and Cyan Coates converted the goal, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead that they carried into the halftime break.

A goal in the first two minutes of the second half put Bridgewater ahead 2-0. Randolph picked up her second assist of the night and her sixth of the season when Hunter Collier found the back of the net for her first goal of the night.

Shenandoah stayed in the game with a goal in the 58th minute when Alison Spaziani scored off the assist by Kaitlyn Carter to make it a one-goal game, 2-1.

Bridgewater answered when Collier scored again in the 65th minute to put the Eagles back up by two goals, 3-1. Collier now leads the Eagles in goals scored this season with eight.

The Eagles put the game away on a late goal by senior Bailey Kratz, her seventh of the season.

Total shots were even at 15 apiece while the Eagles held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Bridgewater goalkeeper Sydney Davis finished the contest with five saves.

Saturday's contest against Virginia Wesleyan is the team's annual Cancer Awareness Game. The contest is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
