Eagles Slip Past Denison, 1-0

LEXINGTON, Va. - Bridgewater College picked up an impressive win in its season-opener Friday as the Eagles defeated Denison, 1-0, at Watt Field on the campus of Washington and Lee University.

Denison posted a 12-3-2 record in 2018 and the Big Red are the preseason favorites in the North Coast Athletic Conference for the 2019 season.

Friday's game was scoreless until the Eagles struck for the lone goal with less than three minutes left in regulation.

Senior forward Bridget Fabiani sent a through ball ahead to Sydney Ryan at the top of the 18 and the Eagles' senior made her shot count to propel the Eagles to the 1-0 victory.

Denison held an 18-8 edge in total shots, including a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. The Big Red also managed a 4-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

Eagles' keeper Sydney Davis recorded the shutout with seven saves.

Bridgewater is back in action Saturday at Washington and Lee when the Eagles meet Greensboro College, Game time is set for 12 noon.
