ASHLAND, Va. - Bridgewater College took top-seeded Randolph-Macon into overtime Saturday before the undefeated Yellow Jackets prevailed, 1-0, ending the Eagles season in the ODAC semifinals.
Bonita Soliday took a pass from Maddie Bauman and scored the game-winner just two minutes into the first overtime period.
The opening half was evenly played as each team had opportunities at the offensive end. The Yellow Jackets held an 11-7 edge in total shots and a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. Eagles keeper Sydney Davis had five saves in the first half while Randolph-Macon keeper Christina Newman recorded four saves.
Hanna Randolph put the Eagles' first shot on frame in the 13th minute with a low shot to the left that Newman saved. A minute later Cyan Coates took a shot high and to the right that Newman turned away. Sydney Ryan put a shot on goal in the 26th minute and Randolph had her second shot on goal in the 32nd minute of play.
The Eagles struggled to generate offense in the second half with just two shot attempts and no shots on goal. Randolph-Macon had eight shots in the second half and Davis had three more saves.
The only shot taken in OT was Soliday's winner, her first goal of the season.
After starting the season with a 3-5-2 record, the Eagles won nine of their final 11 games to finish 12-7-2 overall. The Eagles now have 11 straight winning seasons and have won 12 or more games for the past four seasons in a row.
