FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater Eagles women's tennis team continued play Sunday at the ITA Regionals at the University of Mary Washington.
Holly Knupp turned in the Eagles top performance by winning the flight 5 singles title. Knupp defeated Juniata's Vienna Cardier in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinals and then won a split-set decision over Franklin & Marshall's Gavriel Rubenstein 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4). In the final, Knupp stopped Mary Washington's Brittany McBride 6-2, 6-2.
In consolation play, Whitney Cash lost her match in flight 3 by a score of 8-1 and Caroline Edwards lost in flight 7 action, 8-3.
In doubles action, Cash and Stephanie Barton lost in the consolation semifinal in flight 1 to St, Mary's Melissa Barall and Marissa Romanek 8-2.
In flight 2, Knupp and Shannon Quinn reached the semifinal in the main draw. The Eagles duo opened play with an 8-5 win over Moravian's Caitlin Adams and Courtney Lambert. In the quarters, they knocked off Muhlenburg's Brittany Gould and Carina Nicolaisen 8-0. The BC pair lost in the semis, 8-1, to Franklin & Marshall's Tara Buchney and Allison Wolters.
In flight 3 doubles, Bridgewater's Leanne Smithers and Caroline Edwards lost their opener to Randolph's Samantha Dickerson and Emmalyn Snead, 8-3.
