Marlins Edge Eagles In Women's Tennis Action

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team lost a close 5-4 decision Sunday to Virginia Wesleyan in ODAC action.

The Eagles had just four healthy players available for the match and were forced to default at No. 3 doubles and No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Bridgewater won four of the six contested matches but the Eagles were unable to overcome the three defaults.

The Eagles were victorious in both doubles matches. Stephanie Barton and Whitney Cash won at No 1 doubles, defeating the Marlins' Katie Staman and Jackie Lee 8-4. At No. 2, Ashley Price and Shannon Quinn edged Mia Proctor and Kellen Phillips 9-7.

Bridgewater also picked up wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. At the No. 3 slot, Quinn held off Staman 7-5, 6-4.  Cash outlasted Phillips at No. 4 winning in split sets 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.

The Marlins clinched the victory with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Proctor defeated Barton at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-1 while Lee stopped Price 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2.
