Women's Tennis Overcomes Lynchburg, 6-3

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Bridgewater College overcame a pair of walkovers Monday to defeat Lynchburg College 6-3 in ODAC women's tennis action.

The Eagles were still playing without a full complement of players and were forced to default matches at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.

Bridgewater won both doubles matches that were contested to take a 2-1 lead.

Stephanie Barton and Whitney Cash defeated Lynchburg's Valeria Erostegui and Kelsey Dowling 8-2 to take the win at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Bridgewater's Ashley Price and Shannon Quinn stopped Sarah Wyly and Lilli Atenburg 8-3.

The Eagles won four of the five contested singles matches to clinch the victory.

At No. 2 singles Price downed Erostegui 6-3, 6-2 and at No. 3 Quinn defeated Wyly 6-3, 6-1.

Bridgewater's Holly Knupp blanked D'Andria Alston-Thomas 6-0, 6-0 to win at No. 4 and Cash edged Dowling 7-6, 6-4 to take the victory at No. 5.

Lynchburg picked up a point with a victory at No. 1 where Erika Hadland turned back Barton 6-1, 7-6.
