Women's Tennis Defeats Quakers, 7-2

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater women's tennis team picked up its second conference win of the season with a 7-2 victory Friday afternoon over Guilford College on Mapp Courts.

The Eagles got off to a solid start by sweeping the three doubles matches.

Holly Knupp and Haley Lloyd picked up the first point with an 8-2 victory over Nora Prokosch and Chandler MacDonald at No 3 doubles.

The Eagles No. 1 doubles team of Stephanie Barton and Whitney Cash stopped Guilford's Katie Claggett and Riley Caruana 8-4, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead.

Ashley Price and Shannon Quinn completed the sweep with a 9-8 victory over Fernanda Gonzalez and  Leigh Fishman at No. 2 doubles. The Eagles duo won the tiebreaker 8-6.

The Eagles won four of the six singles matches to finish off the victory.

The Quakers picked up their first point at No. 4 singles when Gonzalez rolled past Quinn 6-2, 6-1 in the first match off the court.

Price made the team score 4-1 when she downed Prokosch in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

Lloyd clinched the team victory for the Eagles with a split-set victory at No. 6. Guilford's Luci Gordon won the first set 6-4, but Lloyd rallied to take the next two sets 6-0, 6-3.

The Eagles added victories at No. 3 and No. 5 singles. Knupp handled Caruana 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 3 flight while Cash stopped Fishman 8-3 at No. 5.

Guilford's other point came at the No. 1 singles flight where Claggett turned back Barton 6-2, 6-4.
