Women's Tennis Loses Tough Match At E&H

EMORY, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team wrapped up the regular season Sunday afternoon, losing a tough 5-4 decision at Emory & Henry in ODAC action.

The Eagles trailed 2-1 after doubles play. The Wasps won at No 1 doubles and took the point at No. 3 doubles by default. At No. 1, Sveva Mazzari and Savanna Summers defeated Stephanie Barton and Whitney Cash. 8-2.

Bridgewater salvaged a point at No. 2 doubles where Shannon Quinn and Holly Knupp rolled to an 8-1 victory over Lauren Riner at Kaitlyn Sheaves.

The Wasps took wins at No. 1 and No. 6 singles and received a default at No. 4 to clinch the team victory.

Knupp won at No. 2 singles, defeating Riner 6-2, 7-5 while Quinn stopped Summers 6-2, 6-2 to claim the No. 3 flight. Cash downed Sheaves 6-1, 6-2 to take the point at No. 5 singles.

Emory & Henry's Mazzari blanked Barton 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and Kaitlin Meade edged Bridgewater's Haley Lloyd 6-3, 6-4 at Mo. 6.

Bridgewater, 5-11 overall and 4-6 in the ODAC, will play in the conference tournament with first-round matches scheduled for April 30. The Eagles will be seeded either No. 6, No. 7 or No. 8 for tournament play. Bridgewater, Guilford and Shenandoah are tied for those three spots. Pairings and times for the first-round will be released by the conference office.
