SALEM, Va. - Bridgewater College fell in the opening round of the ODAC women's tennis tournament, losing to Roanoke College, 5-1, Saturday afternoon.
Roanoke, the No. 3 seed in the tournament led 2-1 after doubles play over the No. 6 seeded Eagles. The Maroons took the victory at No. 1 doubles as Emily Henderson and Rhealyn Dinkins turned back a strong challenge from Bridgewater's Stephanie Barton and Whitney Cash, 8-5. Roanoke also won at No. 3 doubles by default.
The Maroons needed three wins in singles play to clinch the match and picked up victories at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 to close out the match.
Roanoke took the No. 6 match by default and Lydia Dey stopped Bridgewater's Haley Lloyd 6-0, 6-1 to win at No. 5. Roanoke's Henderson defeated Barton 6-3, 6-2 to take the victory at No. 1 singles.
Bridgewater finishes the 2016 season with a 5-12 overall record.
