Eagles Open ODAC Play With Win Over Hollins

Sophomores Whitney Kiser and Nicole Shifflett return to the courts this spring for the women's tennis team.

ROANOKE, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team opened conference play Tuesday with a 9-0 victory over Hollins.

The Eagles opened play by sweeping the three doubles matches without losing a game. Whitney Kiser and Nicole Shifflett defeated Sarah Snoddy and Valerie Sargeant at No. 1, Stephanie Barton and Rachel Crawford won at No. 2 over Kateri Johnson and Alexis Morring and Emily Daigneault and Caroline Edwards stopped Anna Holland and Elizabeth Eubank at No. 3.

Bridgewater then won the six singles matches, all in straight sets. Kiser downed johnson at No. 1 singles  6-0, 6-3 and Shifflett defeated Sargeant 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2. At No. 3 singles, Barton downed Snoddy 6-3, 6-3 while Crawford blanked Eubank 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Daigneault downed Holland 6-0, 6-2 to win at No. 5 singles and Katie Austin defeated Morring to take the win at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
