BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College women won four individual events Saturday at the Dr. Harry G.M. "Doc" Jopson Track & Field Invitational.
Senior Katie Cummings did not win an event, but she did set a new BC record with a second-place finish in the hammer. Cummings posted a best throw of 143 feet, 4 inches, besting the previous mark of 141 feet, 1.5 inches set by April Miller in 2005. Cummings also finished second in the shot with a best of 38 feet, 6 inches and second in the discus with a throw of 121 feet, 6 inches.
The Eagles finished with wins in three field events.
Erin Parker won the pole vault, clearing 8 feet, 11.75 inches. Teammate Jenna Stacy placed second with a vault of 8 feet.
Jordan Pitchford won the high jump, clearing the bar at 4 feet, 11.75 inches and Melanie Waters led a 1-2 sweep in the triple jump with a winning effort of 34 feet, 8.5 inches. Kai Lynn Stoker placed second in the triple with a best jump of 34 feet, 5 inches.
Stoker also added a second-place finish in the long jump at 16 feet, 3 inches while Waters placed third at 15 feet, 11 inches.
In the javelin, Jessie Owens finished second with a throw of 98 feet, 9 inches.
Bridgewater's lone win on the track came in the 1500 meters where Whitney Fitzgerald led a sweep of the top two spots for the Eagles. Fitzgerald finished with a time of 5:05. 27. Samantha Hancock placed second with a time of 5:14.60.
Owens added a third-place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:11.86.
