Celen Named to Academic All-America Team

2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division III Track & Field/Cross Country Teams

AUSTIN, Texas -
Bridgewater College sophomore Amber Celen has been selected as an Academic All-American after reaching three NCAA finals and maintaining a perfect GPA as well.

Celen was a third team selection. The double major in sociology and communication, technology and culture has a perfect 4.0 GPA through her first two years at Bridgewater.

Celen was one of just four sophomores named to the list, with three of those four placing on the third team.

She earned two All-American honors in the 2016 outdoor season, placing second at the NCAA championship meet in the 200 meters and fourth in the 100 meters. She also qualified for nationals in the long jump and helped BC to a 12th place finish in the team standings.

Celen qualified for the NCAA indoor meet in the 200 meters and 60 meters, earning All-American status with an eighth-place finish in the 200.

She was the South/Southeast Region Indoor Women's Track Athlete of the Year, and earned All-Region honors in three different outdoor events.

Celen set meet and ODAC records in both the 60 meters and 200 meters in helping Bridgewater to the ODAC indoor championship- the only two ODAC women's records broken at the meet. She also won the 60m hurdles and distance medley relay.

Bridgewater also won the ODAC outdoor championship as Celen competed in seven different events. She won the 100 and 200 meters, later setting an ODAC record in the 100 meters at NCAAs.

The CoSIDA Division III Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2015-16 Division III Academic All-America teams program.
