Ariel Named Academic All-District

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater cross country and track & field junior Calista Ariel has been selected to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team, selected by CoSIDA.

Ariel was named to the District 5 team, which is comprised of schools from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennesee, and Virginia. She was one of 11 athletes selected for the honor.

The 2018 ODAC Cross Country Individual Champion, 2019 ODAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Meet and All-American in the steeplechase, Ariel is a health and exercise science major with a 3.92 GPA. This season, she was the conference champion in the indoor 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters and in the outdoor 3,000 meter steeplechase, 1,500 meters and 5,000 meters. The Fredericksburg native qualified for both NCAA Division III National Championships in the indoor 3,000 meters and outdoor 3,000 meter steeplechase where she earned All-American honors. 

In addition to her accolades on the track, she was also named the ODAC/Va. Farm Bureau Insurance Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year and completed an internship with the Peace Corps last summer.

By being chosen for the Academic All-District Team, Ariel advances to the Academic All-America ballot.
