EMORY, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team swept Emory & Henry Tuesday night for their ninth ODAC win of the season.
Allison Clark started the Eagles off behind the service line with a run that featured two aces along with two kills from Rachel Gaston. The Eagles held on to their strong start to take the first set 25-14 on another Gaston kill.
The Wasps picked up the pace in set two and held the advantage all the way until the score was 20-18. Emory & Henry would only score one more point in the set as history repeated itself when Madison Haynes earned two aces in a run that feature two more Gaston kills. The Eagles added one more ace to finish off the set, this time from Victoria Wilson, to head into the third up two sets to none.
Bridgewater jumped out to an early 5-0 lead to start the third and never looked back. They would take the set 25-17 for their 17th sweep of the season. The last time it took the Eagles more than three sets to win was on September 8.
Gaston put down a match high 18 kills with only two errors. Emily Hanger was the most efficient Eagle hitter with a .636 hitting percentage, seven kills, and no errors while adding five blocks. Taylor McNeely contributed nine digs and Haynes served up four aces in the win. Wilson also had a great showing, recording ten digs and 34 assists as she moves closer to 2,000 career assists. The senior has racked up 1,940 in her career so far.
The Eagles next match is Friday, October 26 against crosstown rival Eastern Mennonite. It will be the team's final ODAC contest of the regular season. Bridgewater will honor its three seniors, Jenna Hamra, Deja Booker, and Wilson, before the match along with the team's two senior managers Ashley Crickenberger and Kalli Walling. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
