ASHLAND, Va. – The Bridgewater College volleyball team fell to Washington and Lee University in the semifinals of the ODAC tournament on Friday night on the campus of Randolph-Macon College.
The Eagles got off to a slow start in set one. Despite building some momentum toward the end, it was not enough to erase the early 13-2 deficit as the Generals took the first 25-15. Taylor McNeely played great defense picking up six digs in the set and Rachel Gaston posted three kills.
The teams started the second trading points back and forth, but Washington and Lee was able to gain a 20-13 advantage late. Bridgewater struggled to find their rhythm as the Generals went up two sets to none.
The Eagles grabbed an early lead in set three but could not hold on. The offense got moving towards the end of the set behind strong setting from Jenna Hamra, but it again was not enough as the Generals would take the set and the match.
Gaston put down 13 kills to end a stellar junior season that featured three ODAC Player of the Week awards. McNeely picked up a match high 19 digs, while Hamra assisted on 21 points.
The Eagles finish 2018 with a 24-7 record for one of the best seasons in Bridgewater volleyball history. The team now awaits the conclusion of the tournament for the announcement of the All-ODAC teams.
