BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team will play Lynchburg in the first round of the ODAC tournament for the second straight year.

The Eagles earned the No. 3 seed with a 23-6 overall record and a 10-2 conference record. They will take on the No. 6 Hornets Wednesday night in Nininger Hall.

Last year, the Eagles entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed and the Hornets as the No. 5 seed. Lynchburg took the match 3-1 to advance to the semifinals.

Bridgewater swept the Hornets during the regular season at Lynchburg on September 19. Rachel Gaston paced the Eagles during that meeting with nine kills. Jyailah Friendly led the defense with 13 digs while Victoria Wilson put up 31 assists. Sydney Frink led the Hornets with six kills and Lauren Stanford collected 17 digs.

Gaston leads the Eagles and the conference in kills with 392 on the year. The junior has consistently been in the top 20 in the nation in kills per set all season. Taylor McNeely has anchored the back row in her first year with the libero jersey picking up 434 digs, which is good for fourth in the conference. She also ranks fifth in the ODAC in digs per set with 4.34.

Wilson, a senior, recently cracked 2,000 career assists. She sits atop the ODAC in assists per set this season with 10.53. That number is also one of the top in the country this season.

Lynchburg is 13-14 overall and posts a 7-5 conference record. The Hornets have won their last four conference games, but fell to Southern Virginia 3-2 on October 26 in their final regular season contest.

Frink leads the Hornets with 335 kills, good for fifth in the ODAC. Stanford is one of the top liberos in the conference, averaging 4.14 digs per set and totaling 514 digs total. Those numbers rank second in the conference.

The winner of Wednesday's match will advance to semifinals on Friday, November 2 and face either Guilford or Washington and Lee for a chance at the ODAC title the following day.
