WINCHESTER, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team moved to 8-0 on the season with a 3-0 sweep over conference foe Shenandoah. The Eagles held the Hornets to a negative hitting percentage in two of the three sets.
Bridgewater took an early 11-6 advantage in set one. Shenandoah kept the set tight and eventually tied the score at 22-22. The Eagles dialed in their play behind back-to-back kills from Emily Hanger and two aces from Hope Jennings to take set one 25-22.
The Eagles maintained the pace of the play in the second set, holding the Hornets to only 14 points. Taylor McNeely's seven point service run set Bridgewater apart and provided the spark to keep the momentum in the Eagles' favor. Rachel Gaston put down five of her nine kills during the second set.
Shenandoah hit a -0.167 in the third set and gave Bridgewater half of their points on errors. The Eagles capitalized on the Hornets mistakes, but also made great plays of their own.
