Eagles Sweep Tri-Match to Remain Perfect

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team defeated both Hollins and Greensboro 3-0 to remain perfect on the season.

Game One: Bridgewater 3, Hollins 0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-22)

Bridgewater started the day with an important conference match-up against Hollins. The home team wasted no time getting started in the first as Taylor McNeely served five points in a row. Bridgewater complied a sideout percentage of 80 and a .417 team hitting percentage in the first. The Eagles held Hollins to just two kills in the first set and six in the second. 

After taking set two by a score of 25-10, Bridgewater was challenged in third as Hollins kept the match tight until the very end. The Eagles were able to survive the set 25-22 and take their second ODAC game of the season.

Rachel Gaston had a double-double with a team high 15 kills to go with 15 digs. Taylor McNeely had 16 digs from the libero position. Sarah Kerns contributed to five blocks and Grace Hayes had 39 assists.

Game Two: Bridgewater 3, Greensboro 0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-20)

Greensboro jumped out to a 12-6 lead in the first set before Bridgewater's Coach Harris called a timeout. The team came back and not only tied the game at 12-12, but only allowed the Pride to score five more points the entire set. 

The next two sets were tight, but the Eagles found a way to win. Bridgewater held Greensboro to a -.176 hitting percentage in the third set, only allowing the Pride five kills. 

Gaston led once again with 12 kills. Hope Jennings put down nine attacks while Kerns recorded seven kills. Gaston and McNeely both had 12 digs. Hayes collected 29 assists. 

The Eagles now enter the bulk of ODAC play and will travel to Roanoke College on September 18 for a 7:00 p.m. match.
