LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team swept Randolph College 3-0 on Saturday, October 19.
Madison Haynes earned the first two kills and points for the Eagles in a back and forth first set. Bridgewater proved to be the more efficient team, hitting a .225 compared to the WildCats .071. The Eagles took to the set on a Randolph attacking error.
Bridgewater dominated set two, only allowing Randolph to score nine points. The Eagles had three service aces and went on a 7-1 run to end the set.
The Eagles continued with the momentum from set two and kept the WildCats guessing with an unpredictable offense as five players recorded two or more kills in the set. Bridgewater took the match on a missed WildCat serve.
Sarah Kerns had a match high nine kills, followed by Hope Jennings with eight, Gaston with seven and Haynes with six. Jennings served tough, collecting four aces as well. Taylor McNeely recorded 18 digs with Gaston posting 17. Jessica Bissmeyer also had double-digit digs with 11. Grace Hayes had 25 assists and nine digs.
The win is Bridgewater 20th of the season and moves them to 8-2 in conference play. The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, October 23 with a home match against ODAC-leading Randolph-Macon. It will be the team's Bleed Crimson game and is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
