Volleyball Falls in Quarterfinals

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team concluded its 2019 season with a 3-1 loss to Washington & Lee in the first round of the ODAC Volleyball Championships.

The two teams battled in the first set and traded points down to the wire. The Generals took the first set by two points and had 14 kills compared to the Eagles nine. The Generals continued with their momentum from the first set and took the second in a similar fashion 25-21.

Bridgewater controlled the third set from start to finish, hitting a .213 while holding W&L to a .068. 

The Eagles had an opportunity to push a fifth and deciding set, but the Generals made key points down the stretch to take the set and the match. 

On the night, the teams had comparable hitting percentages with Bridgewater hitting a .110 and Washington & Lee hitting a .150. Both teams totaled 47 kills with the Eagles collecting 91 digs and the Generals picking up 86. Bridgewater dominated from behind the service line, recording eight aces. 

Rachel Gaston concluded her stellar career with a match high 18 kills and 19 digs for a final double double. Taylor McNeely also impressed in her final match collecting 28 digs. Grace Hayes had 33 assists and 12 digs. Jessica Bissmeyer and Gaston both had three aces with Bissmeyer adding 13 digs.

Bridgewater finishes with a 23-7 record. The team will wait to find out the All-ODAC selections next week.
