Box Score Visiting Mary Washington University defeated the Eagles 76-61 in
non-conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon in
Nininger Hall. Mary Washington University came into the contest
nationally ranked in the top 30 in 2 pre-season polls.
Bridgewater College trailed at the half 39-29, and stayed within
striking distance for the majority of the game, but couldn't
overcome a cold-shooting second half in which the Eagles shot only
22.7 percent from the floor. The Eagles also finished with 25
turnovers.
BC had a slim edge in rebounding, 38-37, and connected on 26-of-33
free throws for the contest. The Eagles were led by sophomore
Jordan Burkholder with 20 points, including a 12-for-14 effort from
the free throw line, and senior Rebecca Henderson with 10 points
and eight rebounds.
Mary Washington University was paced in scoring with four players
in double figures including freshman Katie Wimmer with 20 points,
senior Ashton Mitchell with 13 points, senior Katy Larson with 12
points and freshman Jenna McRae with 10 points.
BC is now 0-1 on the season and returns to action on Tuesday when
they host Ferrum College in another non-conference contest.
